Photos shared on social media present an enormous police presence in Birmingham city centre, close to the busy New Street Station, after the youths reportedly gathered to trigger “chaos”. Three youngsters have been arrested on suspicion of violent dysfunction and assaulting a police officer, Birmingham Live reviews.
A dispersal order has been imposed following “a number of disorders” and can stay in place till 5pm immediately, West Midlands Police say.
One witness stated: “I was stood outside Tesco and a bunch of young guys started fighting.
“There have been plenty of them, simply needed to be 100. It began on the high by the Iron Man and it got here down New Street. Then the police got here and dispersed them. I’m unsure if any arrests have been made. This was about 5pm.”
Jordan Jacob, 23, who saw the disorder said: “There have been fairly just a few faculty youngsters there, perhaps 20 if no more.
“Someone shoved someone and the kids were watching.
“Everyone was working over to see what was occurring. Lots of police got here and so they went over.”
A Twitter user posted: “Lots of police and chaos on the junction of New St and Temple St. Lots of individuals gathering and a few working from the scene. Seen one particular person was detained and bundled into the again of a Police van.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We at present have a dispersal order in place in Birmingham city centre following numerous problems immediately.
“Three teenagers have been arrested for violent disorder and assaulting a police officer.
“The dispersal order can be in place till 5pm on Wednesday night, permitting officers to disperse individuals or teams more likely to trigger anti-social behaviour.”
