For virtually 15 years Zac Mainwaring has drawn comparisons to his late, nice father on the soccer subject. Now the son of West Coast legend Chris Mainwaring is about to make his WAFL debut and has declared, ‘This one is basically for Dad.’

Zac, 20, will make his senior debut for Claremont on Saturday. He was only a small little one when his father was found lifeless at 41 from a suspected cocaine overdose.

Chris Mainwaring was a two-time AFL champion and was inducted into the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2005, which means his household would all the time be within the highlight.

Every coaching session, each junior sport of footy meant comparisons to his well-known father.   

‘I’ve been struggling with out him of late so this one actually means so much for us all,’ Zac mentioned.

‘It is a large day for the household.

‘I’ve been working actually laborious over the past couple of seasons to crack into the league aspect.

‘I used to be actually hoping for sport. I really feel like I’ve performed so much of work throughout the pre-season to attempt to push for a spot within the league aspect so it was good to play properly.

‘It’s bloody thrilling, I am unable to wait.’

‘It (footy) is nice as a result of generally it does get my thoughts off not having Dad there,’ Zac mentioned to Perth Now in 2017.

‘I miss him so much after I see different dads with their sons. I keep in mind him as a very good dad and hopefully I can observe on in his footsteps and be like he was.’

Mainwaring’s No.3 jersey was retired for 3 seasons following his loss of life, whereas the Eagles’ Best Clubman Award has been completely re-named the Chris Mainwaring Medal.
